July 14 – Incorporating R with SQL Server 2016

Abstract

Interest in the R language is has grown along with the amount of data being accumulated. As Microsoft is now incorporating the R language into SQL Server 2016, the language is going to be a required skill for all data professionals in the near future. This webinar will provide an explanation the different versions of R, demonstrate writing R code in Visual Studio, and run some R code on SQL Server. To ensure everyone who wants to can run this code on their PCs, all of the setup information needed to make R work on SQL Server and the UI will a be covered. April 7 – Using R Machine Learning Script as a Power BI Desktop Data Source

Abstract

You can develop a Power BI Dashboard that uses an R machine learning script as its data source and custom visuals. In this webinar, you will learn how to connect to data sources over the Internet, cleanse, transform and enrich the data through the use analytical datasets returned by the R script, design the dashboard and finally share it.

Sergei is a data scientist at Qrious, an Auckland (NZ) based big data analytics company, where he responsible for data wrangling, analysing it and building analytical applications using variety of tools (Greenplum DB, R, PostGIS, QGIS and Tableau). He received his PhD from the Institute of Hydrodymics (Russian Academy of Sciences) developing mathematical models of water flow and transport phenomena in water bodies.

October 8 – Spatial Data – Looking Outside the Map

Abstract

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, spatial data doesn’t get much love in SQL Server. It is a feature worthy of much appreciation and will become more vital as more location data is collected. In this session we will explore spatial data and discover many ways it can be used for incredible analytics. You will learn some new ways to visualize your data outside of the typical plots on a Bing map layer. Come and learn how powerful spatial data can be even though it lacks a snazzy "power" title.

Hope Foley, a SQL Server MVP with over 16 years of experience in the IT world, has worked across many industries including insurance, health organization, and federal government. August 26 – Power BI, Mission Possible!

Abstract

Power Query, Power View, and Power Pivot has been in the BI market for a while. Microsoft combined these three products into a single product and service with a new designer called Power BI Desktop (Power BI Designer). Power BI gathered features of these three products all in one, so building dashboards and effective visualization items with this tool is much easier nowadays.

In this session you will learn all new and great features of Power BI. You will learn how to work with different data source, and apply Power Query transformation on them. You will learn tricks and tips of modelling with Power BI Desktop, and then how to visualize effectively with this tool. You will also learn how to build dashboards on Power BI website.

At the end of this session you will be able to use Power BI for your everyday data analysis as well as organizational data mash up and visualization. So expect lots of demos in this session.
